



Symbolism in Logo
Uniting Church Logo. Identifies the larger logo with the Uniting Church of Australia and all that it stands for. It also is in the position of the sun in the logo, spreading the warmth and light of Jesus Christ to all around.
Seeds. actually watermelon seeds, the watermelon being a refreshing tropical fruit, just as the good news of Jesus Christ brings refreshment and joy to the heart. The NQ UC aims to plant the seed of the Gospel in the hearts of all it ministers to.
Coconut Tree – a common sight in the northern part of Queensland, it is a very useful plant providing, food, shelter and fibre as well as binding the sand together, a picture of the serving nature of work of the Church. In the Middle East, the olive tree has similar connotations but is not appropriate for our country.
Boomerang a well known tool of our indigenous people of the North. We acknowledge that we are all one people before God. Like a well thrown boomerang God’s Word goes out to the world and will accomplish its purpose in the hearts of those that hear and will not return empty.
Ulysses Butterfly a beautiful native of the North, signifying the beauty of the creation and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The butterfly has long been a symbol of rebirth and resurrection in many cultures.
The Lettering -
Colours – the blue represents the sea along the sandy beaches of the north, the yellow comes from the sun, the red/yellow combination echoes the aboriginal colours, green comes from the rich green of the rainforest.
The Map – shows our distinctive North Queensland coastline and helps people identify where we are in Australia.
The logo for the Uniting Church Presbytery of North Queensland was launched in Cairns during Presbytery in May 2008.
It was designed by Margaret Russell from Atherton.
